Who'd be Johan Bruyneel Today?

Wow, I am nearly feeling sorry for him. Nearly. Radioshack Nissan Trek seems to be imploding, and just after Andy had finished showing everyone his X-rays, the Armstrong bombshell comes along. This is off Johan’s site.

Align your brand with the most successful sports coach of all time!

A plotting strategist and mastermind, Johan’s worldwide exposure and marketability enable your company to attach itself with the success and credibility Johan has built throughout his entire life. More than just a coach, Johan extends beyond the sport of a cycling

It then goes on to list a range of services from Licensing rights to Motivational speaking tour.

If you had a lazy lump of cash sitting around, would you back his team?

Some interesting times ahead, that’s for sure.

Holy Schleck!

Now, before you go accusing Millar of being delusional, check out what Dave McKenzie has to say on SBS here.

Now, both these blokes are way more informed than I am, so what are they basing their opinions on? The fact that Andy seems only to race one race every year? Has he been ripping it up in some obscure race I haven’t seen? Have Millar and McKenzie forgotten there is 100+kms of time trials in the TdF this year? What is it?

And on Andy, and for that matter, Frank as well. It doesn’t seem that long ago that people were getting behind them to beat up on Armstrong or Contador. Now, it seems they are the riders every one hates. When did it all turn around? For mine, I would like to see them do well just to shut Johan Bruyneel up. Although, if they did perform, he would be claiming it was because of him.

One thing I will say, it has given way to some fantastic terms with in the pro cycling scene. Schleck Neck, The Schleck-chute, The Schleck sisters and it goes on.

As always, your comments are appreciated.

Tour de Kids Plus vs Critérium du Dauphiné 2012

Here is an interesting comparison. Was having a closer look at the route for the Tour de Kids Plus 2012 charity ride the other day and realised it is nearly comparable to the final 6 days of the Critérium du Dauphiné 2012 which is being raced now. Obviously, I am in no way saying that my fellow fund raisers on the ride would be able to compete in the Critérium du Dauphiné, but it certainly gives an idea of what we are up against.

Sure, we will be going about about 60% of the speed of the pros, and they are going to do a hell of a lot more climbing, but considering my cycling background, I can’t speak for my cohorts, it is going to be a considerable challenge.

Which is the More Devisive Debate?

It seems the two topics that gets the paint peeling off the walls on cycling forums is the helmet debate (whether that is railing against mandatory helmet laws, or proving that helmets actually help in a crash) or the Lance Armstrong did or didn’t take performance enhancing drugs (or has he ever been caught or not).

All opinions are valid, despite what some people might say about me. 🙂
