I could hear this burble sound coming up behind me on the way in to work this morning. The good old GoPro managed this shot of it as it went past.
A couple of weeks ago I was talking about trying to get a list of cyclists on Twitter. Well, the hard work has been done.
The UCI Track World Championships start today at Hisense Arena in Melbourne. If you have never seen track cycling, I can highly recommend it. If you are unsure about all the different disciplines, check out this overview at cyclingnews.com.
SBS will be showing live coverage from 7PM each night of the event. Hosted by Michael Tomalaris along with SBS Cycling Analyst David McKenzie. Commentary from Matthew Keenan and Scott McGrory. Toby Forage reminded me that Cycling Central are also live streaming the afternoon session.
Rupert Guinness has stuck his neck out and made some brave decisions in his Sydney Morning Herald column today.
There is also a Youtube channel for all reports from the track.
Ted King from Team LiquiGas-Cannondale has uploaded his Tour of Flanders ride data to Strava. Makes me want to have a lie down just looking at it.
Strava Ride | Holy Ronde Van Vlaaaanderen, Batman!.
Check out his web site, http://www.iamtedking.com/ he really is a character, and quite the wordsmith for a professional athlete.
I am glad it wasn’t just me. Gerard Vroomen has similar thoughts to mine in his latest blog post.
Would it be possible to find a more depressing finishing straight? Seeing them ride that last kilometer there was only one positive thought popping into my head: “Thank goodness I don’t live there”. The old finishing straight wasn’t exactly in the most pitoresque spot in Flanders either, but this was rubbish.
I was thinking on the night as the top 3 snaked their way along the nondescript grey ribbon of boredom, how about they cover it up. Make it a tunnel. Say at the 1km mark and the tunnel finishes at the 150m mark. By Christ it would build more suspense. I realise if Vino was riding it would be a place for him to do some finish line deals, but I still think it has merit.
Who names these bikes? The Madone is the flagship, so it looks like someone just shifted the Ma and the Do and thought that was just as good a name. Then they pronounce it Doh Ma Nay. Sounds like number 17 on the local Vietnamese restaurant menu! Ok, here is a look behind the scenes. Sounds like Trek have been to Apples marketing course.
The murderess Muur and Fabian Cancellara at near the end.
Sam, I expect you to have this by years end. Maybe buy it in a 55cm frame size, custom blue and orange paint job, that way if you don’t like it, you can sling it to me on the cheapo. 🙂
More info at the Domane 6 website.
This could nearly be an April Fools day gag. I am pretty sure I heard about this bike at school in industrial arts. I have seen drawings, but never a video of it. Enjoy.
